Danang’s Best Vietnamese Restaurants: A Local’s Guide

Welcome to Danang, where the vibrant flavors of Vietnamese cuisine await. If you are looking for a place to enjoy delicious food, amazing scenery, and friendly people, Danang is the perfect destination for you. Danang is the third-largest city in Vietnam and famous for beautiful beaches, majestic mountains, rich culture, and history. But what makes Danang even more attractive is its cuisine.

Finding the best Vietnamese restaurants in Danang is not an easy task, as there are so many options to choose from. Fortunately, I recently spent a month-long exploration of this enchanting land, savoring its natural beauty as well as tasting some great food.

Through my journey, I’ve had the pleasure of discovering and savoring some of the city’s finest Vietnamese restaurants. These are the very establishments that have become my go-to places when I seek the embrace of authentic Vietnamese flavors, whether it’s with friends or cherished family moments.

Lam Vien Restaurant

Lam Vien Restaurant

Lam Vien Restaurant stands out as one of my favorite places to eat in Danang every weekend. Here, traditional Vietnamese dishes take on a modern twist, courtesy of the culinary maestro behind it all, Mr. Lam.

What sets Lam Vien apart is Mr. Lam himself, the owner with over two decades of experience in the art of cooking and catering. He uses fresh and organic ingredients to create dishes that are flavorful, nutritious, and beautiful.

Some of the dishes that I recommend you to try are the grilled pork ribs with honey and lemongrass, the steamed fish with ginger and soy sauce, and the banana cake with coconut cream. For a comforting classic with a twist, try the fried rice adorned with lotus seeds and chicken, a symphony of textures and tastes that marry beautifully. Trust me, a visit to Lam Vien promises a culinary journey you won’t soon forget.

  • Location: Lam Vien Restaurant is conveniently located at 88 Tran Van Du Street, Ngu Hanh Son District, Danang.
  • Opening Hours: From 10:00 am to 10:00 pm every dayMadame Hanh Restaurant

Madame Hanh Restaurant holds a special place in my heart as a go-to spot for Vietnamese diner. This family-run establishment has been a culinary cornerstone in Danang for over a decade, and it continues to enchant diners with its time-honored flavors. The owner and chef is Madame Hanh, who learned how to cook from her mother and grandmother. She uses her own recipes and secrets to make dishes that are authentic, tasty, and satisfying.

Among the special dishes waiting to be explored on Madame Hanh’s menu, the banh xeo (crispy rice flour pancakes with pork, shrimp, bean sprouts, and herbs) comes highly recommended. For a hearty and satisfying choice, the bun cha offers succulent grilled pork patties served with rice noodles, fragrant herbs, and a delectable dipping sauce. The nem lui, grilled pork skewers wrapped in lemongrass, showcase the essence of Vietnamese street food. To round off your meal, don’t miss the che ba mau, a three-color dessert featuring coconut milk, jelly, and beans that provide a sweet and refreshing conclusion to your dining experience.

  • Location: 79 Luong Huu Khanh, Tho Quang, Son Tra, Da Nang
  • Opening hours: 10:00 – 22:00

Cay Me Restaurant

Cay Me Restaurant

Cay Me Restaurant is my go-to spot whenever I’m in the mood for spicy and flavor-packed cuisine. This unassuming eatery, though small and simple, serves up a delightful array of dishes hailing from the central region of Vietnam, with a particular emphasis on Hue’s culinary treasures.

The dishes from Hue are a harmonious symphony of spicy, sour, salty, and sweet notes, thanks to the generous use of chili peppers, lime juice, fish sauce, sugar, and an array of aromatic herbs.

Some of the dishes that I recommend you to try are the bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle soup), the banh beo (steamed rice cakes topped with shrimp paste), the banh nam (steamed rice cakes wrapped in banana leaves with pork and shrimp), and the banh bot loc (transparent dumplings with pork and shrimp). The portions are small but the flavors are big. The prices are also cheap and the service is fast.

  • Location: 3 Nguyen Thien Ke, Son Tra, Da Nang
  • Opening hours: 10:00 – 22:00

Mi Quang Dung

Mi Quang Dung

This Danang restaurant comes highly recommended by the locals, and it’s not hard to understand why it enjoys such popularity. The Mi Quang dish served here is nothing short of fantastic.

Mi Quang is a traditional noodle dish from the central region of Vietnam, which consists of yellow rice noodles, meat, broth, herbs, and crackers.

Remember that this restaurant close around 1 pm, so come for lunch soon.

  • Location: 121 Do Ba, Bac My Phu, Ngu Hanh Son, Da Nang
  • Opening Hours: 05:30 – 13:00

Bep Cuon Da Nang Restaurant

Bep Cuon Da Nang Restaurant

Bep Cuon Da Nang Restaurant is a place that I always recommend to my friends who want to try something different and fun. This lively and interactive restaurant offers a creative twist on dining by allowing you to craft your very own spring rolls with an array of enticing ingredients. Spring rolls, a beloved and versatile dish in Vietnam, can be customized with various fillings, wrappers, sauces, and preparation methods.

At Bep Cuon Da Nang Restaurant, you can choose from different types of wrappers (rice paper, lettuce leaves, mustard leaves), fillings (pork, beef, chicken, shrimp, fish, tofu), vegetables (carrot, cucumber, bean sprouts), herbs (mint, basil), noodles (rice vermicelli), sauces (fish sauce, peanut sauce), and toppings (fried shallots).

The interesting thing lies in mixing and matching these elements according to your personal preferences and creativity, allowing you to craft the perfect spring roll that suits your taste buds. You can also watch how they make fresh rice paper on a hot plate in front of you.

The reasonable prices make it accessible to a wide range of diners, and the warm and friendly service adds to the overall convivial atmosphere.

Che Sau Lien Da Nang

Che Sau Lien Da Nang

After a round trip with the main dishes, it’s time to end the journey with a cool but equally unique dessert.

Che is a popular dessert in Vietnam, as it can be eaten hot or cold, depending on the weather and the season. Che can be made with different types of beans, fruits, jelly, tapioca pearls, coconut milk, sugar syrup, and ice.

Some of the flavors that I recommend you to try are the che dau xanh (mung bean soup), the che thap cam (mixed fruit soup), the che bap (corn soup), and the che troi nuoc (glutinous rice balls in ginger syrup). The desserts are sweet, creamy, and refreshing, and they are a great way to end your meal or cool down on a hot day.
