The Northern region of Vietnam, with its dreamlike natural landscapes and a rich cultural heritage spanning thousands of years, offers an abundance of treasures waiting to be explored. Steeped in tradition and boasting diverse ecosystems, Northern Vietnam beckons to those with a passion for nature and an insatiable wanderlust.

With an enduring love for the outdoors and boundless enthusiasm for travel, I embarked on a 14-day solo journey traversing the length and breadth of the region. This immersive adventure allowed me to delve into the distinctive customs of each subregion, savoring the unique culinary delights each locality had to offer.

Day 1-2: Starting from the City Sights of Hanoi

Your adventure commences in Hanoi, a city where the past and present engage in a lively dance of street vendors, motorbikes, and serene lakes. It’s a city that never sleeps, yet always dreams. Here are the Best Things to Do in Hanoi:

  • Stroll Around Hoan Kiem Lake: Begin your morning with a tranquil walk around this iconic lake, witnessing the city come to life.
  • Explore the Temple of Literature: Immerse yourself in Vietnam’s scholarly past at this Confucian temple, the country’s first university.
  • Visit the Hanoi Opera House: Experience colonial elegance at the Opera House, a splendid example of French architecture in Vietnam.

Hanoi stands as a haven for food enthusiasts. Don’t miss the chance to relish the city’s signature dish, pho—a comforting noodle soup perfect for any time of day. For aficionados of coffee, Hanoi’s egg coffee is a must-try—a creamy concoction that doubles as both a dessert and a caffeine fix.

Day 3-4: Ninh Binh – “The Ha Long Bay on Land”

After Hanoi, Ninh Binh is definitely the first Northern tourist destination that I want to explore. I used two more days in my trip and all I got was the surprise that nature here brings.

Ninh Binh, often hailed as the “Ha Long Bay on Land,” unfolds a breathtaking panorama of limestone karsts and meandering rivers. Nature’s sublime artistry is vividly showcased, with majestic cliffs and verdant landscapes setting the stage for an enchanting adventure. Can’t Miss Ninh Binh Highlights Explained:

  • Hang Mua Viewpoint: For an awe-inspiring perspective of the region’s beauty, ascend to the Hang Mua Viewpoint. The climb unveils a panoramic vista, providing an unforgettable glimpse of Ninh Binh’s captivating allure.

Day 5-6: Cruise Ha Long Bay and Cat Ba Island

Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site, unveils an otherworldly spectacle with its emerald waters and a myriad of towering limestone islands adorned with rainforests.

The Ha Giang Loop, a circular route skirting the border with China, unveils breathtaking and untamed landscapes etched into memory. This remote expanse promises an unparalleled experience, where cultural richness and pristine landscapes retain their authenticity.

Having embarked on a two-day loop, our journey, though short due to time constraints, proved both enriching and demanding.
