The Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Hoi An

I have had the opportunity to explore many different cuisines around the world. One of my favorite destinations for food is Hoi An, Vietnam. For a country with a traditional cuisine with meat-heavy dishes like Vietnam, I thought it would be difficult to find vegetarian restaurants in Hoi An, but maybe I was wrong.

Hoi An has a long tradition of vegetarianism, influenced by Buddhism and the local culture. Many locals eat vegetarian food on the first and fifteenth day of the lunar month, or on special occasions such as Tet (Vietnamese New Year). As a result, there are many vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Hoi An, offering a variety of dishes that are not only delicious but also healthy and ethical.

It’s all must-try restaurant so that I decided to put together a guide and here are list of the best vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Hoi An that you should not miss:

The Fisherman, An Bang Beach

My exploration of Hoi An’s vegetarian and vegan restaurant began at The Fisherman. If you want to enjoy fresh and organic food with a stunning sea view, head to The Fisherman at An Bang Beach. This restaurant is run by a friendly couple who are passionate about sustainability and animal welfare.

The Fisherman have a daily special menu that changes according to the season and the availability of ingredients. But in general, there will be dishes worth trying and always present on the restaurant’s menu.

I loved everything about The Fisherman, especially their vegan burger served with sweet potato fries. The burger itself was delicious, juicy, and full of flavor, prepared with a homemade patty consisting of beans, oats, nuts, and herbs. The fries were perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and were served with a spicy mayo dip.

Tam Quang Minh is my go-to vegetarian restaurant in Hoi An for Mi Quang  and Cao lầu. Both were tasty but my favorite one was the mi quang chay: noodles with prawns, pork, peanuts, quail eggs, and spring rolls( we had tofu and tomato broths substituting the meat and eggs)

Beside my favorite picks, the menu offers a wide range of dishes, such as tofu with lemongrass, mushroom with ginger, vegetable curry, fried spring rolls, fresh spring rolls, and salads.

Ba Dam – a bargain vegetarian buffet

The cheapest place in my list, and the place you can eat as much as you want with a variety of dishes, such as rice, noodles, tofu, vegetables, salads, soups, spring rolls, and more.

I ate a lot at Ba Dam, but my favorite dish was the spring roll. The spring roll was crispy and fresh, with a filling of vermicelli, carrots, cabbage, and mushrooms.

For dessert, you can choose from fruits, cakes, puddings, and ice cream. The buffet costs only 50,000 VND (about 2 USD) per person, and you can eat as much as you want.

Minh Hien

Minh Hien is a garden restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and a large menu of vegetarian and vegan dishes.

First up, we have the White Rose, also known as Banh Bao Vac. It’s a special dumpling from Hoi An that you definitely shouldn’t miss. Another tasty treat is the Banh Xeo, a Vietnamese pancake that’s sure to satisfy your cravings. And don’t forget to try some of their amazing noodle specialties. They even have their own version of Cau Lao, which is Hoi An’s famous noodle dish.

When you step inside the restaurant, you’ll be welcomed by a cozy and inviting atmosphere with bookshelves lining the walls. And don’t worry about finding a seat, there’s plenty available for you and your friends.
