The Dragon Bridge stands as a magnificent steel structure, resembling a colossal dragon soaring gracefully over the water. As the longest bridge in Vietnam, it stretches an impressive 666 meters in length and boasts a substantial width of 37.5 meters. After nightfall, the dragon’s body comes to life, adorned with 2,500 LED lights that gracefully change colors, creating a breathtaking spectacle. On weekends and holidays, the dragon’s head captivates onlookers by unleashing fire and water, drawing throngs of visitors and locals.

In Vietnamese culture and mythology, the dragon symbolizes power, strength, and prosperity. It has a deep-rooted connection with the Ly Dynasty, which held sway over Vietnam from the 11th to the 13th century, introducing numerous achievements and innovations to the nation.

Spanning the Han River in Da Nang, Vietnam, the Dragon Bridge was a feat of construction that unfolded from July 19, 2009, to March 29, 2013, with a total cost nearing VND 1.5 trillion dong (US$88 million). Designed by the US-based Ammann & Whitney Consulting Engineers in collaboration with the Louis Berger Group, this marvel was brought to life by the talented hands of Vietnamese Company No. 508. The bridge’s inspiration can be traced to the enchanting canals and bridges of Venice, Italy. Its inauguration on March 29, 2013, marked the 38th anniversary of Da Nang’s liberation from the South Vietnamese regime during the Vietnam War.

The Dragon Bridge symbolizes the growth, progress, and pride of Da Nang and its people. This bridge serves as a vital link, connecting the eastern and western parts of the city, facilitating transportation and trade. Moreover, it acts as a magnet for tourists and visitors, all drawn to its beauty and uniqueness. In its structure and design, the bridge echoes the city’s rich tapestry of tradition and modernity, history and innovation, and the harmonious blend of nature and technology.

One of the most captivating features of the Dragon Bridge is its mesmerizing fire and water show, a spectacular event that takes place every weekend and on holidays at 9 pm. This breathtaking display spans approximately 15 minutes, during which the dragon exudes both fire and water from its formidable mouth. It’s a spellbinding performance that combines dazzling lights, enthralling sounds, and graceful movements, leaving the audience in awe.

The Dragon Bridge’s remarkable fire and water show is made possible through cutting-edge technology concealed within the dragon’s head. This intricate mechanism comprises four key components: a gas system, a water system, a nozzle system, and a sensor system. The gas system supplies the fuel for the fire, utilizing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Meanwhile, the water system provides the necessary water, which is carefully filtered and pressurized. The nozzle system plays a crucial role in governing both the direction and intensity of the fire and water, with flames reaching heights of up to 10 meters and water jets soaring to an impressive 22 meters. The sensor system diligently monitors environmental conditions, such as temperature and humidity, to ensure precise adjustments to the fire and water elements.
